Teaching Yoga for children is quite different from teaching Yoga for adults. For many years, most yoga training was focused on adults; but, teaching Yoga for children has become more popular nowadays because of the many benefits of starting young. From my experience as a preschool teacher, I believe that the greatest challenge with children is to hold their attention long enough to teach them the benefits of yoga. To accomplish this, I use my own classroom experiences to guide them. For example, a technique I use is to have them assume the role of animals, trees, flowers, warriors and to be in different places around the world, as an introduction into basic poses. I let them be children while introducing them to yoga–for example, they can bark in the dog pose, hiss in the cobra, meow and be frisky like a cat on a full moon night; and just let the children “BE..” Yoga Lotus Kids is a mixture of storytelling, books, games, music, languages and dance (movement) to engage the children into the beautiful Yoga journey.
